MY THOUGHTS
The adventures continue in the peculiar dream world with Kerstin Gier's Dream On, the second book in the Silver trilogy. Several months have passed since Anabel tried to murder Liv on the night of the Autumn Ball, believing it would help an ancient, evil demon take over the world. Anabel is now receiving the care she needs in a psychiatric hospital, far away from London, and life has relatively returned to normal.
Liv is happily dating Henry Harper, one of the most popular boys in school, and she's even come to accept her mother's relationship with widower Ernest Spencer. Although Florence still barely tolerates their presence in their much more crowded home, Grayson already treats Liv and Mia like family. Everything would be perfect for the Silver sisters, if it weren't for Mrs. Spencer, Florence and Spencer's grandmother... and their new public enemy #1. But all families have their squabbles, right?
However, the danger is not yet over as we'd thought. Grayson is worried about Liv and Henry's ongoing visits to the dream corridors, especially since there is so little they understand about the shared dreams. And maybe he's right. Liv can't shake the sensation she is being followed in the corridors, and even more unsettling, Mia's dreams have been fretful of late, causing her to sleepwalk. And it doesn't help that Henry seems to be keeping some secrets of his own...
Both the covers for Dream a Little Dream and Dream On suggest a dark, mysterious tone, but the books actually lean towards the lighter side. Liv is such an endearing heroine! She's adorable and kind, and sometimes get caught up in dramatics, but it's hilarious and too cute for words. And her close relationship with her younger sister Mia is one of my fave aspects of the series. Even though Dream On didn't seem as exciting to me as Dream a Little Dream, I honestly didn't mind because Liv's narration of events is just so delightfully charming.
When Liv is not worrying about someone targeting Mia's dreams, she's also concerned about Henry. He's cynical and doesn't open up to others easily, but you can tell he truly cares about Liv. And I absolutely love the endless possibilities of the dream world, to deliberately shape our dreams, protect them with special doors, and transform ourselves into anything. The only limitation is the extent of your imagination, really.
Okay, so maybe life has never really returned to normal for Liv Silver ever since she moved to London. And I'm glad! Family drama, romance, and mysterious dream corridors, Kerstin Gier's Dream On was another captivating, absolutely fun read. I can't wait to find out how the Silver trilogy will end next year!
